So I thought it would be a great new years resolution to create a rescue blog. I want to keep track of the comings and goings of the horses and what exciting things are happening here for the year ahead. I also thought if there is something happening in the horse world that bears repeating, it would be great to have a central place to accumulate all these things.
Right now we are fundraising for two things. A lean-to style structure for the main pasture and also for a billboard on I-90 to protest the slaughter of American horses.
The lean-to is going to cost approximately 1400 dollars. The billboard is 1000 dollars. I think it is important to post a billboard in the I-90 Albany Region as this is the main pipeline to Canada for killbuyers. I know some rescue people want to place one near Unadilla, NY where there is an auction barn that sells horses on a bi-weekly basis. That auction is not well attended and many horses get shipped direct from there to Canada.
The leanto is important to this rescue as it will enable us to help another rescue, H.O.R.S.E., due to the illness of one of their founder's. Without this shelter, we can not help them.
We have taken in two STB's from a Pa brokerlot, whom I do not support, but took them in as a favor to a woman who wanted to give herself a holiday gift. They are not available for adoption yet, as they have many needs at this point, We also took in two racehorses from a very responsible owner. Regal Court and City Whisper. Regal Court aka Reggie has been adopted and will remain with us as a boarder, City Whisper will make an excellent hunter horse and we will be re-training him as such. Millie Money, also a TB, will be joining us in a month. She is a young filly that injured herself on the track, but has been re-habbed and is now sound enough to be put back to work as a pleasure mount.
We still Have Stability, the 10 year old Personal Ensign grandson, that raced until September of 2010. He is well on his way to becoming a pleasure horse, thank you Briana Calore.
The new barn was finished, for the most part, this spring. However we had some finishing touches to deal with. one of those being to finish closing up the doorway with a top half door. The colder temp's being on the way, our neighbors and friends, the Cavalieri's and my son, Daniel, buttoned that up this past weekend. Thanks to many friends and supporter's, we now have enough warm blankets for the horses that are here. I still need to get a few more black rubber buckets, as some of the new ones have had the bails broken off by over zealous horses at meal time. (Not pointing any fingers....BEANER!)
I would like to have a "looking forward to Spring" open house and will begin making the plans, and setting a date for that very soon.
We currently have 13 rescues looking for homes, and will post pics on the website as the pics are taken, and time and weather allow.
As always, our door is ALWAYS open. We love visitors and we love volunteers even more. From mucking stalls to just plain grooming and loving on the ponies. Please feel free to give us a call, last minute visitors are always welcome.
Thank you.
